This beautiful wonder was made by Mathijs Declerck in Brussels in 1870. Gracefully designed to be a very durable safe, this piece uses a series of latch plate work that lends to its high decorative value.
Gracefully designed to be a very durable safe, this piece uses a series of latch plate work that lends to its high decorative value. Unusual for safes at that time, there is a sliding cover that can only be opened by the original key.
Making it even more rare is the hidden French combination lock under the cover, which uses four separate combinations dials, which can only be turned with the original key. Another feature of this safe is the keyhole for the main lock, which is hidden under one of the two steel rose ornaments. To compliment its beauty are the decoratively designed brass ornaments on the safe's exterior.
